Warning: May Contain Spoilers

Thought it might be interesting to put down my thoughts on the media I consume, so here’s the things that came to mind about all I watched/played/read over the last week.

Comics:

Deadpool: Suicide Kings #3

Oh, Deadpool, I would go on a date with you. If you manage to stop being headless. And make sure there are no chunks of head left anywhere. Seriously, it’s kind of gross.

Ultimatum #1 - Three Kings

Felt very short. I’m glad I didn’t pay full price for it or anything. And if those characters are gone for good, which I suspect they are, not a great send-off for them. My brother, on his read through, didn’t even think they were dead.

Also, Angel should become Angelfish – he’s a pretty good swimmer. And I wonder what the prize is for The Thing’s 25 Words or Less. Pity I’m no good at those kinds of competitions.

X-Factor v1 #71 – Cutting the Mustard

That jar was evil. Completely evil. You ask me, I blame society. And Jamie. Karma’s a bitch, huh Jamie?

X-Factor v1 #86 – One of These Days… [X-Cutioner’s Song Part 10]

Oh Cable, I wish I had your whittling skills.

X-Factor v1 #89 – Dark Homecoming / Cabin Fever

Jamie’s eyes are incredibly blue in this issue. In all the earlier issues his eyes were black/brown. Checked my volume three stuff though and he has blue eyes in some of them and brown in the others. Interesting.

Robert Downey Jr totally had a cameo in his alternate ending The Shaggy Dog form. That stupid, stupid alternate ending.

Quicksilver totally has a breast. Possibly two, but only one was visible. When shown it my brother claimed it was too low down and must be a tumour, but it is definitely a breast. And that page where Quicksilver’s wife thought he came out was hilarious.

Games:

Half Life 2

Didn’t give me as much of an emotional response playing through again. Guess it’s a combination of knowing what’s gonna happen and not have subtitles on while running around the room ignoring the people talking to me.

Still fun though.

Movies:

Fanboys

Good movie. I liked it. Can’t see how it would’ve really worked without the cancer though. Stupid Weinstein Brothers. Didn’t notice any of the Star Wars anachronisms listed on imdb, but I did notice a MirrorMask book in the comic shop.

And no wonder Jason Mewes had a drug addiction.

Igor

So cute and morbid. Hang in there kitty!

Tropic Thunder (With Commentary On)

Still funny second viewing. I just wish they’d finish some of the stories they start telling though. And talked less about Tom Cruise.

Music:

Kupek – Entire Back Catalogue

Pretty nice music, but none of the songs have really jumped out and grabbed me. Think I need to listen through a few more times.

And now having relistened some have jumped me. Awesome.

TV:

American Dad! - S3 Ep10 “Tearjerker”

Naughty people having their phones on during the movie. Pity they didn’t cry themselves to death.

Beautiful People - S1 Ep1 “How I Got My Vase”

Ew, people jumping to conclusions. I hate that. Show wasn’t too bad though. Shall watch more.

Cold Case - S2 Ep 11 “Blank Generation”

I’d actually watched this episode before. And I thought this the first viewing and still think it now - his “suicide note” really didn’t strike me as a suicide note.

Cold Case - S3 Ep 19 “Beautiful Little Fool”

It was interesting how they got all the information from the diary, the article and the tapes and such instead of talking to first-hand witnesses. Getting it from the song was a little bit of a stretch though.

Family Guy - S7 Ep 8 “Family Gay”

I think Peter got smarter when he was gay. Interesting.

Ghost Whisperer - S4 Ep17 “Delusion of Grandview”

Haha, fail Melinda. Fail!

Heroes - S3 Ep22 “Turn and Face the Strange”

I’d just started thinking that maybe there’d finally be an episode without Claire, but no. Halfway through she appears. At least she was barely in it and didn’t really do anything when she was.

Oh Sylar, getting cocky and making mistakes. You are such a serial killer. :P

How I Met Your Mother - S1 Ep6 “Slutty Pumpkin”

Pretty cool costumes. Much better than my Halloween efforts. Hansel and Gretel for a couple though… tad incestual, isn’t it?

What spellchecker? Incestual isn’t a word? Lame. Tad incestuous then, isn’t it?

How I Met Your Mother - S2 Ep17 “Arrivederci, Fiero”

It was all Robin’s fault that the transsexual car died. She sucks.

How I Met Your Mother - S4 Ep22 “Right Place Right Time”

Only 200? Really Barney, pathetic.

Law and Order: Special Victims Unit - S10 Ep15 “Lead”

The way Olivia read him his rights seemed so dodgy. I’m sure she was trying to be nice or something, but it really didn’t look like it clicked with him that he was being read his rights. Lookd like he just thought she was taking to him.

I was glad new ADA was gone, but Alex was still annoying.

Medium S5 Ep15 - “The Man in the Mirror”

The actions of characters in this episode really bugged me. Surely her husband would be familiar enough with the weird happenings that surround her to believe that the strange man claiming to be his wife was in fact his wife, instead of just yelling a lot. Also, I think that he should have at least told the oldest daughter about her mother being in a coma. She’s at about 16 now, she can handle it.

The interactions between “Todd” and the husband were pretty amusing though, once he stopped yelling. Pity there wasn’t more.

Peep Show - S5 Ep4 “Jeremy’s Mummy”

I love you Jeremy. You should be nicer to your mummy though.

Robot Chick - S3 Ep1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

The theme song will not leave my head.

Supernatural - S4 Ep15 “Death Takes a Holiday”

I’m glad no-one decided to see how many ways they could kill themselves without dying like in that Family Guy episode.

Instead…

Everybody was ghost-fu fighting, dun dun dun dun dun dun dun.

Dreams Can Come True

In part of my dream last night I opened my wallet and saw I had a Spotlight VIP card.

Today I went to Spotlight to get some more felt for toy making. While there, I joined their VIP club because my mum suggested I should.

Now, I just hope the part where I find a bunch of comics at the bottom of a paper recycling bin comes true.

"It's alive! Alive, I tell you!"

A chunk of my week was spent making soft toys. Being my first attempt at making them, things didn’t go quite as planned.

Body parts, that I needed, were accidently cut and ripped off the templates. Body parts were pulled off finished toys. (Okay, so it was one arm on one toy – he had to see the doctor, which was me.) Pants were sown onto the wrong side of a body. Bodies were sown together before I realised I hadn’t finished putting things on them. Heads were stuffed before I realised I forgot to put the eyes on. Clothing didn’t line up properly. Muscles in my arms I don’t normally use were used preparing stuffing, and they didn’t like it. Stuffing didn’t want to stay in bodies. (The specialist, my mum, dealt with that.) Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Actually, that was basically all the issues I had. And despite them, it was fun making the toys, and I plan to make more. Plus, I’m still learning, and I’m sure it’ll get easier as I go.

Now, without further ado, my babies.

From left to right: Eric from Shaun Tan’s Tales From Outer Suburbia (flat, for me), Deadpool (for me), ShinkenGreen (softpixels’s birthday present), Deadpool (evil universe that has mustaches, for my sister), Eric (slightly squishy, for my sister)

We make our own luck.

As I flipped through the letters I came across a few for me. One of which had the distinct outline of a movie double pass showing through its envelope.

"I'll bet it's tickets to the movie my friends and I have planned to see this afternoon!" I thought to myself. And lo and behold it was.

Annoyingly though, tickets of the nature that you win are not valid on cinema discount days. And not having all that much money, my friends and I had decided to go see this film on the discount day. I couldn't bail on my friends, so I decided I would attempt to use the pass, and if it didn't work I'd just pay for the film and give the pass to someone else afterwards.

I had to pay. Afterwards I gave the pass to my parents. For a small fee of $10. And considering seeing the movie cost me $8 - PROFIT!

This Week in Thought

Take 2

JIMMY TWO HATS AND THAT GUY FROM THE MIGHTY BOOSH
Over the weekend I attended a goth club being run by friends. I didn’t want to take a jumper, so I wore two T-shirts in an attempt to stop myself from freezing to death. From my friend I received a belt to help me blend in more. I didn’t want to take my other belt off though, in case it went missing or something, so I just wore the new one over the top. Every time I thought about how I was wearing two of these items, I thought of Chris G’s Jimmy Two Hats, and then that guy from The Mighty Boosh. The one that wears lots of hats. Then, after leaving the club and arriving at another friend’s place I was told I should place my bowler on top of his, to keep it safe. Sadly, neither of us put on this double hat.

THE MIGHTY BOOSH
As well as repeatedly thinking of that guy from The Mighty Boosh, it just kept coming up. My friends invented a drink based on it. My friend has a really cool Mighty Boosh T-shirt. One of the songs from the show was played at the club. And it reminded me – I haven’t actually finished watching it. There are a few episodes in the second series I missed and I missed the start of one in the third. I’d better go watch them.

WALKING AT NIGHT
I love the crispness to the air at night. As long as I’m with friends, I enjoy the creepy shadows around. I don’t like walking through the city and seeing people start fights though.

COCKROACHES
They’re pretty gross and I don’t really like them. There was a rather large one at my friends’ place the other night. Their cat was trying to catch it and you could hear it scuttling across the floor. Eventually it was captured and devoured – more disgusting than just the original cockroach. I didn’t go near the cat for awhile.

GARLFIELD MINUS GARFIELD
I don’t really read newspapers, so I don’t really read newspaper comic strips. When I do come across a paper, I’ll usually read Garfield if it’s in there. I came across a webcomic where Garfield has been removed from his own strips over the weekend, and I must say, I prefer the result.

ALCOHOL
I fail at drinking it. Took me three hours to drink 250mL. Not really a bad thing though, considering that that one drink cost me $10.

COSTUMES
One friend is having a head hunting night and one was having a superhero party but that now seems to have warped into a 90s party. I’ll still be going as a superhero though. There’s also the Melbourne Zombie Shuffle, which I wanted to do this year. Normally I don’t put much effort into costumes, but I’m gonna go all out for these ones.

The Interruption

We sit around, happily talking and joking and laughing. A melodious tune interrupts us.

One of our number turns to look at the source of the music, a phone. "Just a minute," he says and puts it up to his ear.

There is a moment of silence, then he places it down.

"Whoops, that was my alarm."

John the Submariner

John was a submariner during World War II which always amused us because he was well over 6 foot. He lived a few doors down from me, and I would often see him strolling from the shops wearing his beret and I’d always get a hello. Once he even brought over a letter that had been intended for me but had ended up at his house.

He moved away a few years ago to somewhere more manageable. I missed having him around.

Then today someone appeared at our door asking if we knew whether John had been buried or cremated. Apparently he died in February. He'd been happy in his new home, but had fallen and broken his hip. He didn't recover.

Rest in peace, John.

This Week in Thought

So, I spent Friday reading THE NATHAN COSBY BLOG featuring Nate Cosby by Nathan Cosby. In it he had ‘This Week in Thought' posts.

“I’m trying to do more blogposts.

So every Monday/Tuesday, I'll post the top seven things I thought about over the past weekend (as you know, weekends are a time to reflect while eating chicken and watching old movies).
This may seem boring...but you're reading my blog. You're SUPPOSED to be bored.”

While I don’t agree about the chicken, I thought this was an interesting idea, so without further ado, here’s what I thought about over the weekend.

---

MINI MARVELS
Mini Marvels was the first Marvel comic I ever read and has always been a favourite. Reading it always brings a big smile to my face. I’m disappointed Marvel has chosen to discontinue it, but at least I’ll have Chris G’s G-Man to read soon. Only 37 more days!

APRIL MOVIES
There are roughly nine films on my list of films to see in April (I say roughly because their release dates are always changing), and so far the only movie I’ve seen is one that wasn’t even on my list – Dragonball Evolution. I’m seeing The Boat That Rocked with a friend tomorrow though, and I won tickets to see The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas next weekend.

CHOCOLATE
I’ve basically eaten all of the small chocolates I received for Easter. My lunch yesterday was just chocolate. I’m thinking I’ll use the bigger chocolates as cinema snack food. Popcorn at the movies is just too expensive these days.

AGE
People are always thinking I’m about 17. A friend’s brother actually said to him the other day that it was strange because I “acted like a 20 year old even though I’m only 17”. I’d thought this may just be because I’m always hanging around with an actual 17 year old. Yesterday, however, I went to the museum and the woman at the ticket desk asked if I was a child. I’m pretty sure the cut off for children is about 15, so I really must actually look young. A good thing though. Except on the rare occasions I buy alcohol I don’t usually get carded. Hm…

IPOD
I don’t think I’d even used it this year. It had gotten to the stage where I had more music on my computer than I had space on my iPod, and I couldn’t be bothered shifting through to find the music I wanted on it, so once the batteries died I just left it sitting there. That was just ridiculous though, so I actually did something about it over the weekend.

SAMURAI SENTAI SHINKENGER
Pretty amusing show. Really makes me want to go rewatch Power Rangers though. I will not give in! Having softpixels bug me constantly about watching Shinkenger is not fun though. I’ll watch it! Eventually. Gosh. :P Also, my Japanese has been in horrible decline lately, so hopefully this will help it to pick up.

SUPERPOWERS
Reading Civil War over the weekend I have decided that there is no way I would ever use my powers to help people. It’s just not worth the effort. I’d elaborate, but that’s also too much effort.

Dear Mr Reckless,

You may be perfectly happy to risk both your life and the life of your young child by disobeying the the many 'No Entry' signs, jumping the lookout barrier, going down the steep gravelly trail to the unstable cliff edge to take a photo of your daughter in front of the ocean.

I, however, do not really feel like watching you fall to your death. Or hearing tomorrow on the news that you had died.

Sincerely,
Someone who doesn't wish to suffer as a result of your stupidity.

Recently I babysat my friend's little brother, who will be turning 5 shortly.

As we sat watching Cartoon Network an ad break came up. First was an advertisement for a new lightsaber toy. "I'm getting that for my birthday." Another toy ad came on. "I'm getting that for my birthday." And another. And you guessed it, "I'm getting that for my birthday."

Then came an ad about a feature on the Cartoon Network website. "I'm getting that for my birthday." I didn't have the heart to tell him that wouldn't be happening.

25 Things About Me

softpixels tagged me on facebook, but I thought I may as well chuck it up here too.

I thought it'd be harder to come up with these.

1. I wouldn’t eat bread crusts when I was younger because everyone always said “Eat your crusts and you’ll get curly hair” and I hated my own curly hair.

2. I am a massive hoarder.

3. For the last 3 years I’ve gone to the movies at least once a week – and I have ticket stubs to prove it (see above).

4. I still have grudges against people for things that happened in kindergarten.

5. My favourite number is nine because I was born on September 9.

6. Reading the newspaper tends to make me angry.

7. I go through phases of really liking stuff. Currently it’s American comics. Before that it was video games. The phases tend to loop.

8. I used to think of myself as a DC fan, but now I’m not so sure.

9. I currently sleep with Batman, Captain America and Prost the piplup – the three toys that have all made appearances on my facebook. Cause, you know, Rafe is totally a real baby and not a toy.

10. I have a massive craving for food I used to eat in America, but am too lazy to go get some from the American food store.

11. There’s a small collection of British soft drink cans on my desk that I only originally bought because they drink them in movies I like.

12. Everybody is always surprised when I say I’m a vegetarian, but I’ve been one since grade four.

13. I wish I could be a pokémon trainer.

14. The soundtrack of Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is stuck in my head. Considering I listened to it 6 times yesterday, it’s not really all that surprising.

15. I don’t like using phones. At all.

16. Tony Stark built me in a cave. With a box of scraps. Okay, so he didn’t, but I do love Encyclopedia Dramatica. Rule 34 ftw!

17. I always play as guys in video games.

18. I’m a very fussy eater.

19. Last year I won nearly $700 worth of stuff from entering competitions. Not as good as my 2007 haul though.

20. I will plan my social life around TV shows.

21. Although I’ve been offered plenty of cigarettes, I have never smoked. Take that peer pressure!

22. If I had super powers I’d use them purely for my own benefit.

23. I sometimes wonder if the reason I’ve never had a boyfriend is that I didn’t pass on that chain letter in primary school.

24. Saying a line from a song will trigger me into singing it. Though I’ll probably just do it in my head.

25. I feel awkward tagging people, so I won’t. :P
Well once again I didn't post as much as I wanted to, so I now present '356 Days of Me', an incredibly, incredibly, rough breakdown of my year.

I spent...

121 days sleeping

31 days watching TV
Of which…
 1 day Carnivàle
 1 day Dexter
 ½ a day Black Books
 ½ a day House

10 days playing video games
Of which…
4½ days Team Fortress 2 (half of that as Pyro)
2 days Half-Life, its sequels and spinoffs
 1 day Pokemon games
 ½ a day Audiosurf
 ½ a day Bioshock
 ½ a day Portal

4 days spent in cinemas
Seeing the following films...
 21
 3:10 to Yuma
 American Gangster
As It Is in Heaven [Så som i himmelen]
 Atonement
 Bank Job, The
 Black Balloon, The
 Charlie Bartlett
Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, The
 City of Ember
 Cloverfield
 Counterfeiters, The [Die Fälscher]
 Dark Knight, The
 Death Note
 Death Note: The Last Name
Diving Bell and the Butterfly, The [Le Scaphandre et le papillon]
Edge of Heaven, The [Auf der anderen Seite]
 Eye, The
Girl Who Leapt Through Time, The [時をかける少女]
 Grindhouse
 Hancock
 Happening, The
How to Lose Friends & Alienate People
 Hunger
 I am Legend
 In Bruges
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
 Iron Man
 Juno
King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, The
 Lars and the Real Girl
 Lust, Caution
 Mirrors
 Mongol
 No Country for Old Men
 Not Quite Hollywood
 Orphanage, The [El Orfanato]
 Paranoid Park
 Persepolis
 Prom Night
 Quarantine
 Run Fatboy Run
 Slumdog Millionaire
 Son of Rambow
 Speed Racer
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
 There Will Be Blood
 Tropic Thunder
 Twilight
 Un Secret
 Unfinished Sky
Waltz with Bashir [ואלס עם באשיר]
 WALL•E
 Wanted

And that leaves 166 days I’m too lazy to account for.

I spent a decent chunk of last week playing Bioshock.

Occasionally, while playing, I'd notice that one of the many dead bodies littering the levels would be waving its hand, or jerking its arm, making it look as though it was trying to be a fish.

After awhile I came across a jukebox. I turned it on and began to walk away. Then I noticed a nearby corpse. He was tapping his foot along to the music.

Reluctantly I answered the door. I assumed it would be my sister, too lazy to use her keys. It was not.

It was a guy, standing there expectantly.
The Rules:
1. Pick 15 of your favourite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search/other search functions.

-----------------------

1 –
You've been caught shoplifting, was it fun?

2 – Little Miss Sunshine - Mum
<strike>A real loser is someone who's so afraid of not winning he doesn't even try.</strike>

3 – The Chumscrubber - Mum
<strike>I just thought you should know that, in no way whatsoever, do I blame you for Troy's death.</strike>

4 - Hot Fuzz - Alison
<strike>Well, I wouldn't argue that it wasn't a no holds barred, adrenaline fuelled thrill ride. But, there is no way you can perpetrate that amount of carnage and mayhem and not incur a considerable amount of paperwork. </strike>

5 – Inside Man - Sam/Mum
<strike>Pay strict attention to what I say because I choose my words carefully and I never repeat myself.
</strike>
6 – Juno - Alison
<strike>Oh, and she inexplicably mails me a cactus every Valentine's Day. And I'm like, "Thanks a heap coyote ugly. Look up "idiot" in the dictionary. You know what you'll find?
b: A picture of me?
a: No! The definition of the word idiot, which you fucking are!</strike>

10 – Thank You For Smoking - Alison
<strike>Michael Jordan plays ball. Charles Manson kills people. I talk. Everyone has a talent.</strike>

11 – Pan's Labyrinth - Alison
<strike>My mother told me to be wary of Fauns.</strike>

12 – Team America: World Police - Alison
<strike>Let's go, bitch. I've done action films!</strike>

13 –
a: Why are you doing this, why are you helping us?
b: I can't become king if someone else already sits on the throne.

14 – MirrorMask - Sam
<strike>a: All those kids in there want to run away and join the circus.
b: Great, they can have my life. I want to run away and join real life.</strike>

15 –
I know you. You know you. And I know you know that I know you.

Either we didn't look hard enough last week or someone's trying to mess with us because I found three more flashcards today.

'Australia' and 'because' were near where we got most of the others and 'inside' was in my street, which we didn't find any on last time.

Sadly, as I got them by myself they don't count and we're still tied.

As I walked down the street with my sister something caught my eye.

It was a small, bright green rectangle. Of course I had to investigate further. I picked it up to find it was a flashcard - Chinese characters one side, pronunciation and English translation on the other. It was pocketed, and we moved on.

Further down the block my sister spotted and snatched up another one. On we went until I spotted a yellow card. And another. And another. And so began a mad dash to see who could get the most. Luckily the road we were on doesn't see much traffic, because we were zigzagging all over the place.

It was a tough competition. We drew in the end. If my sister had been paying more attention though, she could have won. There was a card she practically stepped on as she went to grab another.

And so I'm now the proud owner of ten cards with such useful phrases as 'congrats on being rich', 'one cake' and 'intend a little'.

R.I.P. Tumbling Men

Okay, so they weren't really tumbling men. They were a series of little guys spazzing out. Speeding past them on the train though, it looked like they were tumbling. Or at least trying to. And that always made me smile.

I don't know who painted them, or even when they appeared, but for the last few years I'd always look out for them on my trips. The tumblers were just at the point of the ride where I'd been on the train for just a bit too long and was starting to get sick of it. They were a welcome distraction from the stuffy, crowded carriage.

Sadly though, graffiti doesn't last forever. One by one the little men vanished. Some lost a leg or an arm before going, and some just vanished. Eventually there was only one left, who was in pretty good shape, with the exception of a tag across his forehead.

He too was gone when I passed by the other day. Replaced by a colourful, though rather boring piece.

I'll miss him and his brothers.

I like making lists and I like going to the movies.

So here's a list of the movies I went to see in 2007.

I saw 53 movies.

In 2006 I tried to see a mass amount of movies. In 2007 it just sort of happened. I guess a lot of it is thanks to me winning tickets to 14 of the films, just over a quarter of the total amount I saw. A prize if anybody can guess all the ones I saw for free.

28 Weeks Later
30 Days of Night
300
A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints
Across the Universe
After the Wedding (Efter brylluppet)
Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The
Babel
Becoming Jane
Beowulf [3D]
Black Sheep
Blades of Glory
Brave One, The
Control
Day Watch (Дневной дозор [Dnevnoy dozor])
Darjeeling Limited, The
Death at a Funeral [Saw twice]
Death Note
Disturbia
Eastern Promises
Eragon
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Gabriel
Half Nelson
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
History Boys, The
Home Song Stories, The
Host, The (괴물 [Gwoemul])
Hot Fuzz
I Served the King of England (Obsluhoval jsem anglického krále)
Into the Wild
Italian, The (Итальянец [Italianetz])
Jammed, The
Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten
King, The
La Vie En Rose (La Môme)
Letters from Iwo Jima
Lives of Others, The (Das Leben der Anderen)
Marie Antoinette
Night at the Museum
Pan's Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno)
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Ratatouille
Rescue Dawn
Resident Evil: Extinction
Shrek the Third
Simpsons Movie, The
Shut Up and Sing
Stardust
Tales from Earthsea (ゲド戦記 [Gedo Senki])
This is England
Transformers
Zodiac

I also saw the short Lifted that played before Ratatouille.

I also like to work out stats.

Very roughly... 76% were in English, same as the year before. The foreign language mix was quite a bit different though. Japanese made up 6%, Russian 5%, Spanish, French, German, Korean, and Czech were each 2%. Other languages were Danish, Swedish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Berber, Arabic and Lao.

For once I went to the movies with friends more than family, the totals being friends 54%, family 40%, and the remaining 6% seen on my lonesome.

Due to the convenience Saturday was my busiest day for movies with 11 trips. Tuesday came second with 10 trips thanks to the mainstream cinemas being cheap that day. Monday and Wednesday both had 8 trips, Monday being the discount day for the art house cinemas and Wednesday being the day for premiers (that I won tickets to). Sunday had 7 trips and Friday had 5. Obviously I’m not big on seeing things the day they come out as I only went 4 times on a Thursday.

The most movies I saw in a month was 8, and the least was 1, so I obviously don’t go once a week.

I didn’t go to Nova as often as I did in 2006, but it still managed 33% of my total movie trips. Village was very close behind at 32% though. I’m not quite sure how that happened as I don’t really remember going there all that often. Hoyts, thanks to its new theatre in the city centre, reached 23%. Kino Dendy was still a long way off Nova, but rose to 8%. But considering one of the people I often see art house films with now lives down the street from Nova, I doubt Dendy will do very well in ’08. Visits to The Astor went down and for once I went to Greater Union, but only because I was interstate.
I kind of abandoned my livejournal this year...

...here's some things I was doing instead.

1. Was 2007 a good year for you?
It was fairly good.

2. What was your favourite moment of the year?
There were heaps of great ones but the whole trip to Queensland with my friend Sam and his family would probably top the list.

3. What was your least favourite moment of the year?
The “cop” shoving me at the goth club.

4. What are your plans for 2008?
Clean my room, read more, sleep less, get more done in general.

5. What countries did you visit?
Japan and it was awesome.

6. What date in 2007 will remain etched in your memory?
Um…

7. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Going on a plane by myself maybe.

8. What was your biggest failure?
School.

9. Did you suffer any illness or injury?
Nothing major.

10. What was the best thing you bought?
Spaced - Definitive Collectors' Edition DVD Box Set

11. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
TV stations, doing the same things they do every year. Shows starting late, starting early, repeats mixed in with the new season, episodes played out of order. Gah!

12. Where did most of your money go?
DVDs, CDs, food, magazines, Japan, Manifest.

13. What did you get really really really excited about?
Going to Japan.

14. What songs will always remind you of 2007?
'Grow up Pepper' by Lemonsmile. Actually, pretty much any Lemonsmile song.
Pretty much anything by Trocadero. 'Alien Champion (Numb Mix)' and 'A Girl Named Tex' stand out though.
'Still Alive' from the game Portal.
'The Boy With the Thorn in His Side' by The Smiths. My friends and I had so much fun re-enacting that scene from Blackpool.
'Life on Mars?' by David Bowie.

15. Compared to this time last year are you:
a) Fatter or thinner? Basically the same.
b)Happier or sadder? The same.
c) Richer or poorer? Little bit richer.

16. What do you wish you'd done more of?
School stuff. Room cleaning. Entering competitions.

17. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Sleeping.

18. How will you be spending Christmas?
Christmas Eve with family friends. Christmas Day at my aunt’s with my mum’s family. Christmas evening and the days following at my grandparents’. Same as every year.

19. Which LJ users did you meet for the first time?
It’s more that I made friends in real life who happened to have livejournals.

20. Did you fall in love in 2007?
Sadly, no.

21. How many one night stands?
Um, none.

22. What was your favourite TV show?
Spaced.
Also enjoyed Blackpool, Dexter, Doctor Who, Life on Mars, Psych, Red vs Blue, Robin Hood, State of Play, The Mighty Boosh, Torchwood, and a heap of other shows.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope.

24. What was/were the best books you read?
Didn’t read very much this year sadly. The best was probably Lucifer. Dalek, I Loved You and The Prestige were pretty good though.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Lemonsmile. Technically I discovered them last year, but I’m glad I actually made the effort to listen to them this year.

26. What did you want and get?
Some more great friends.

27. What did you want and not get?
A boyfriend. So much for Sam's New Year's Resolution to get me one.

28. What was your favourite film this year?
Hot Fuzz or Fight Club. Eastern Promises, Pan's Labyrinth and The Jammed were all pretty good too.

29. What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?
My friends and I went to Lygon St. We had some really nice Italian food, then sat outside on a bench with a cake singing ‘Happy Birthday’. Lighting those candles was incredibly difficult. And finally we snuck the cake into the cinema and ate our little slices with our plates and spoons as we watched a French film. I turned 19.

30. What one thing would have made your year more satisfying?
Maybe having done more at school. But then, maybe it wouldn't have.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Same as it was the year before, though maybe a little less baggy.

32. What kept you sane?
No idea. Am I sane?

33. Which celebrity did you fancy the most?
I guess it'd be between David Tennant and John Simm.

34. Which political issue stirred you the most?
Er...

35. Who did you miss?
Michiko. And my friends who were too busy studying to hang out.

36. Did you treat somebody badly in 2007?
Nope.

37. Did somebody treat you badly in 2007?
Nah uh.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned this year?
Um...
The cake was a lie.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year...
“But there's no sense crying
over every mistake.
You just keep on trying
till you run out of cake.“
- Still Alive

It seems I have a daughter.

My friends and I went to the movies, as we often do, to see a movie rated 15+, as we often do, even though not all of us are over 15, it never stops us.

One of the under 15s went to buy a child's ticket, which is fine as a child is up to 16. The attendant however asked for her age, probably thinking she was over 16 (she does look it) and she automatically answered with her real age, 14.

"You do know you need to be 15 to see this movie?" She then added that it'd be okay as long as one of us was 18, so I was pushed forward and we were allowed in to see the movie.

However, the sign behind the attendant clearly said under 15s could only be admitted with their parents or guardians, so she must have been my daughter.

Bored, my friends and I prank called some people, one of those being my English teacher.

He answered the phone and one of my friends started making some weird noises. Then he began talking in a cockney accent, which he dropped for a while, while another friend made cat noises. I just sat around laughing.

Our teacher worked out who it was pretty quickly and spent a lot of time goading us. "Do some dog noises now." He also had some girl in the background going "Help me! Please help me!" I hope she was in on it too.

Not long after we hung up the instigator received a message saying "I'm giving you a D- on that call. You lacked direction and impact. You really should've worked together better. I'll show you...".

While visiting my cousins' farm recently my dad took me driving, something he'd been promising to do for some time. Of course, my siblings couldn't stand to miss out so they came along too.

My brother drove too fast, racing dangerously around the paddocks. My sister turned too sharply, making it feel like the car would tip. Apparently, I ran over too many obstacles, "a sign of things to come".

Once we were all done, my dad drove us back. It was obvious where we all got it from. And it seems that I was the only one to get something from our mum, driving "too slowly".
