Weddings, receptions and babysitting - oh my! [Nov. 15th, 2009|12:16 pm]

[Current Location |Deer Park - Sister's House]
[mood | blah]

Yesterday, one of my sisters got married (for the second time, the godless heathen!). :-)

It was a pleasant ceremony. Then I drank a heck of a lot at the reception, and was subsequently rejected for the first time ever in the romance department. I'm crushed.

I had to watch my sister's daughter overnight (and am still watching her now; they'll be home in about four and a half hours) and as much as my niece insisted she wasn't tired and didn't need to go to bed, she quickly climbed into my lap and fell asleep. After about an hour I stood her up and we went to her room - she followed me with her eyes closed! She climbed into bed and was out of it and seconds. I was up for awhile longer, watching a weird movie on our new crime drama channel ("13th Street") and then The Capture of the Green River Killer. I woke up when my niece climbed up and fell asleep on my chest again, lol!

There was a really lovely bit in the reception where my sister's fiance gave my niece a necklace to acknowledge that they were being connected by the marriage, too; it was so sweet I almost went into a coma. ;-)

Anyway, yeah. Sister just rang as I was typing to say she's on her way home, so yaaaaay!

ALSO: really don't want to go to work tomorrow!

-BRITNEY CONCERT WAS FUCKING AMAZING. I ended up taking a friend from highschool and he had a great time too. Next stop: Lady Gaga concert.

-Trish and Nathan are back from Japan. They got me Cola Mentos, a Donald Duck postcard and a PoT ds game which i'll fingerbash and guess my way through.

-I'm starting to feel about Glee the same way I feel about Phoenix Wright; great premise, but all the characters are morons who deserve to be kicked in the teeth. Derp XD

-Someone made a complaint to management about me because I was apparently rude to them. What actually happened was that she had 30 items in the express line and i asked her to double check the number of stuff in her trolley next time. Bitch.

News: Tycho/Jerry [Nov. 13th, 2009|04:01 pm]
official_pennya
Gabe: Hello dear readers, I would like to tell you a story. Yesterday Tycho and I were in the process of writing today's comic when something very interesting happened. Now you should know by now that our names are not Gabe and Tycho. My name is Mike and Tycho's is Jerry. The characters in the comic strip have always been loosely based on us but I know perfectly well that Jerry does not look at animal porn and he knows I don't fantasize about spiderman. When we're writing the comic strip we talk about things Tycho and Gabe might do, or ...

News: Child's Play 2009 Update! [Nov. 13th, 2009|11:16 am]
official_pennya
Gabe: We launched Child's Play 2009 last week and as of today we've managed to raise $455,863.80. I'm going to give you all a little bit of time to let that number sink in.       Pretty fucking incredible huh? Already games and toys are flying out to Children's Hospitals all over the world thanks to you guys. What an amazing start! We've added a bunch of new hospitals this year. You can now support hospitals in Dayton, Cleveland, Colorado Springs, Boise, Memphis, or (for Canadian readers) Victoria, Ottawa and St. John's. Hit the main CP site to find a ...

News: Conclusive Evidence [Nov. 13th, 2009|12:00 am]
official_pennya
Tycho: Emotiv's Epoc mind controller device thing doesn't allow you to control other people's minds, which I think is a disappointment to everyone. You can watch a video of Indigo Montoya using it, but since the gameplay is occurring within the confines of his skull, it's difficult to assess. Controlling things with your mind isn't an especially demonstrative activity, almost by definition, which makes the product a difficult sell in a visual culture.  In today's strip, we postulate an encounter between our own Gabriel and the contraption.  I don't want to spoil it, but we use the device as a prop ...

SP UK [Nov. 13th, 2009|10:27 am]

spUK, originally uploaded by radiomaru.

The Scott Pilgrim series is being reissued by Harper Collins / Fourth Estate in the UK and Commonwealth countries (excluding Canada). Vols 1-5 will ship in the first half of 2010. Volumes 2/3 and 4/5 are being combined into 400-page omnibus editions. Volumes 1 and 6 will be separate.

Note: I have nothing to do with the cover design of foreign editions (or splitting them up into omnibus editions!). That's the publisher's initiative talking.

I assume they'll be edited for "English", but I'm not entirely certain. I do a bit of a mishmash with the Canadians saying "colour" and the Americans saying "color", although I can't promise that I've been sticking to that 100% of the time.

Obviously, the UK editions seem to be largely prompted by a Hugely Popular And Influential British Director doing the film version of Scott Pilgrim. But hey, they'll be much more widely available around the world.

EDIT: I forgot to mention: for U.S. people, the bookstore chain Borders is now carrying a special "Scott Pilgrim Bundle" of vols 1-3 with a new label that says something about how it's going to be a movie. They don't seem to have it in stock in their online store, but they are in the physical stores now. Good holiday gift for unsuspecting friends and relatives? (These are the exact same Oni Press editions as usual - the only special thing about them is that they are shrinkwrapped together with that blue label and that they are widely available at Borders over the holiday season.)

[mood | pleased]

I had a few people who really enjoyed the lovely little Kangta samples I left on my post recently, so I decided to do all of you a faaaavour and upload the other albums. Just because. Because he has the voice of an angel and everyone should love and adore him as much as I do.

Here are the downloads for the rest of his albums:
Kang Ta Volume 1 - Polaris (77.4MB) [download]
Kang Ta Volume 2 - Pine Tree (46.5MB) [download]
Kang Ta Volume 3 - Persona (42.5MB) [download]
Kang Ta Mini Album - Eternity (31.8MB) [download]

And just because, something completely different:
Kang Ta & Vanness - Scandal (34MB) [download]
Please keep in mind, his collaboration with Vanness is QUITE different to his usual stuff XD; so not all of you will like it. I, on the other hand, love it.

...Track lists and album covers... )

And that's it, ladies and gentlemenz~! Enjoy the lovely crooning of Kangta, and may he give you sweet dreams.

Oh, wow!

The RPM team so clearly went out of their way to bring together sentai footage and new stuff in introducing Gold and Silver. I was stunned. There were some visible seams, but they were few and far between. They really did a bang-up job!

I can't really stand Gem and Gemma just yet, though, and I get the feeling that a) they'll detract from the main Rangers, who haven't yet had enough time in the spotlight themselves; and b) they'll just get really annoying (I hope it is explained that being with Alphabet Soup drove them insane, and they give up their lives in a suicide mission in the final episodes).

But, yeah, awesome. :)

News: DM's corner [Nov. 12th, 2009|11:55 am]
official_pennya
Gabe: I get a lot of mail from new DM's asking for tips. Some of the stuff I post here will probably be old news to veteran DM's but I think it might be useful to others. Something I noticed with fights against only one or two tough enemies was that they got sort of boring. The party locks up the bad guy and they just take turns beating the shit out of him. In my game on Monday I had an encounter that pitted the party against a pair of hunters. I ended up suggesting that since these hunters had ...

marilyn (and jesse), originally uploaded by radiomaru.

I might as well blog this, since I drew it.

This is a drawing of Aaron Ancheta's characters, Marilyn Finch and Jesse, from a comic in his head that I hope he draws one day.

No I do not have time to draw your characters sorry. This is the last non-Scott Pilgrim thing I will draw all year, I guarantee it.

News: My Playlist [Nov. 11th, 2009|10:41 am]

Gabe: I've been jumping back and forth between a few different games recently. There's just so much good stuff to play right now. -Dragon Age I've got maybe twelve hours invested in Dragon Age and I'm still really enjoying it. From what I hear the game's length is pretty ridiculous so I don't imagine I'll ever see the end. I really like the combat though and the story so far has been great. If I had one complaint it would be that much of the time the game just doesn't look very good. I'm not talking about texture resolution or polygons, ...

News: The Minutia-Men [Nov. 11th, 2009|12:00 am]

Tycho: I understand that Modern Warfare 2 is a big release - playing last night, the game informed me that my rank was over two million, and that's just on the Xbox. But the granularity of the coverage it's been receiving projects somewhat beyond the threshold of utility. Gabriel never took part in the many, many nights of the original Modern Warfare enjoyed by Kiko and myself, evenings which began as slow adrenal drips and culminated in the howling ecstasy of tribal, entheogen-fueled whirling. He stopped playing the game altogether when he reached the Television Station in the single player campaign, ...
